About this Project:
This was my final project (IPA, Individuelle Praktische Arbeit) for my apprenticeship in Interactive Media Design. I had the freedom to choose a fictional project within certain limitations. I decided to redesign a website for a secondhand clothing store, offering customers the ability to rent their own clothing rack to sell their items.

The objectives of this project included creating a desktop prototype, adding an animated video the home screen, and developing a new booking tool for customers to rent a clothing rack.

For the realization of this project and writing the documentation, I had a limited time of 120 hours.

Tools used:

Illustrator
After Effects
Figma
InDesign

Preparation:

  • Analyzed the current website to identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • Conducted competition analysis to understand what they do right and wrong.
  • Created a target audience analysis to ensure the website meets the needs of the customers.
  • Sent out surveys to potential users of the website to gather insights and preferences.
  • Developed personas to better understand my target audience.
  • Created a site structure based on all the knowledge I gained from the previous research to create the best possible and easy-to-understand navigation.
  • Outlined the user journey of my personas on the site structure.
  • Curated a moodboard to get an idea of the aesthetic and tone I wanted for the website.
  • Developed a design concept containing guidelines for typography, colors, and images that aligned with the brand identity I wanted to create and based on what makes sense for users.

Exicution:

  • Based on the design concept, I created the logo and icons for the website.
  • I created initial drafts of wireframes to ensure the structural layout and navigation flow of the website functioned effectively.
  • Using the wireframes and my design concept as reference, I developed a functional prototype.
  • I ensured the website was responsive for both mobile and desktop devices.
  • With the prototype, I conducted user testing to gather feedback and adjust certain parts of the website accordingly.
  • Finally, I created mockups for a polished presentation of the final product.

Conclusion:

  • It’s important to prepare a good schedule to ensure I have enough time to finish everything, as well as adding some buffer time.
  • Good preparation and analysis really help for a smooth execution.
